March 24 2010 marked the launch of the debut album by East Arnhem Land artists, Garrangali Band,
entitled ‘Garrangali’ ("Crocodile Nest").
The CD launch took place at Yilpara in North East Arnhem Land, supported by Laynahpuy Resource Centre
and the Mulka Centre.
Special guest performer, Rrawun Maymuru - one of the driving forces for the Garrangali Band - also
performed at the CD launch.
Yilpara resident Stuart Kellaway (musician with Darwin band Horse Trank) is a long-time supporter of
the band and played a large part in the development of their international product.
Darwin audio engineer Matthew Cunliffe (Marine Boy) mixed a great sound on the CD, and Music NT
Indigenous Music Officer Micah Wenitong was also present at the launch, networking with local artists,
organisers and production managers.
Garrangali Band also played a ‘rain song’ as part of their set, which was soon followed by a
'Category Two' cyclone!! These guys really do mean business. After Garrangali Band finished, other
local bands played well into the evening, including Bush Reggae, Homeland Boys and Yantangnga Band.

Garrangali Band at rehearsal, Yilpara.
Garrangali really rocked at Yilpara despite the rain… Make sure you don’t miss them at Barunga – they sound fantastic, and are one of the few bands that sound exactly like their CD when they play live. They are the next big thing to come out of the Territory – you heard it here first!
