Music NT IMDO – back for another year.

As part of Peter Garrett’s $12 million funding investment in Indigenous Arts, Culture and Heritage in the Northern Territory, in June 2010, Music NT was delighted to announce that $75 000 of that pool has gone back into refunding the Indigenous Music Development Officer position, facilitated through Music NT.

Music NT Manager Mark Smith said that the refunding of the position demonstrates “that Music NT is delivering valuable opportunities through the IMDO position, which now has the capacity to continue into 2011.”

He added, “this is also a further opportunity for Music NT to support Territory musicians, by reaching more and more of them across the NT.”

Micah Wenitong is Music NT’s Indigenous Music Development Officer. In 2010 he spent many days travelling to  remote areas and communities in the Northern Territory, including Katherine and the Tiwi Islands.

He judged the Battle of the Bands competition at Merrepen Festival, and visited Barunga Sports & Culture Festival, where Micah was interviewed on CAAMA Radio (pic left).

He then travelled to Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Ramingining between June 11 and July 13. Throughout this time he ran music workshops, supporting music events at festivals, meeting Indigenous musicians, schools and Shire members.
