In July 2010 Music NT featured on Indigenous culture radio program Awaye! on Radio National.
Music NT’s Manager Mark Smith, Indigenous Music Development Officer Micah Wenitong and Alice Springs Coordinator Milyika Scales were interviewed about about their work supporting, training and resourcing Indigenous musicians who live in remote and regional areas in the Northern Territory.
This program is part of Music NT’s dedicated 2010 push into remote communities.
Both Micah and Milyika were interviewed by Awaye! producer/reporter Rico Adjrun, after they had returned from two concurrent trips: Micah from meeting musicians – and conducting workshops – in communities in Katherine, Barunga and Beswick, while Milyika had just come back from meeting musicians in Yulara, Yuendemu and Tennant Creek. She also traveled with Vanessa Hutchins – Artback NT’s Contemporary Music Touring Circuit Coordinator (a program supported jointly by Music NT and Artback NT ), who was also interviewed for the story.
The episode of Awaye! went to air on Saturday July 17, 2010 on Radio National, and was repeated Monday July 19. Find your RN frequency here and find a podcast of the episode online.
