DAY 1: Friday August 27th

Session 1: Round Tables 10am – 11:30am

All panelists

Choose a table, take a seat, put a face to a name and break the ice in this first up session.  When you hear the bell it’s time to move on to your next “connection”.  This is speed dating without the awkward silences.

Session 2: ‘Sync or Swim’  1-2pm

‘Synchronisation involves the placement of your music in movies, TV shows, games and more. This session details what people are looking for and how you can find opportunities for your music.

Session 3: ‘On the Road’ On The Road 2:15pm – 3:15pm

Facilitator: Miliyika Scales Panel: Jack Tinapple, Vanessa Hutchins, Dave Haley, Mark Lackey, Travis Demsey

Touring has survived the downturn in the music industry with more and more artists hitting the road and building audiences.  This session with give an insight into when to tour, as well as practical tips for surviving that road trip and making it work for you.

Session 4: Media Watch 3:30pm – 4:30pm

Facilitator : Megan Spencer  Panel: Greg Phillips, Steph Hughes, Stacey Piggott, Domonique Lehmann, Jeanette Button

The media is still a key factor in getting out there and developing a buzz for yourself or your band.  So what is the best way to get noticed and get some coverage? Whether is be in print, online or radio? And how has media changed through the emergence of online?

In a rare treat for metal fans Dave Haley from Psycroptic brings his skin thumping skills to Darwin to offer drummers a masterclass covering Dave’s experience as a performer and working musician.  SOLD OUT.

Session 5: ‘Remote Control’ 10:00am – 11:00am

Living in regional and remote centres no longer means that your music can’t get out there.  The emergence of digital distribution and online promotional techniques have started to bridge the gap from artist to consumer.  This session details some of the technology available and how you can use it in your career.

Session 6: ‘Book ME!!’ 11:15am – 12:15pm

So you’ve done some gigs around town and are now looking out to other opportunities.  Festivals are still a major launching pad for many acts so how do you get noticed?  What are they looking for from an act? And if you are booked how can make the most of this opportunity?

Session 7: ‘MGMT’ 1:00pm – 2:00pm

The line between label and management has blurred.  Labels are taking a management role, and managers are doing the work of labels.  What works and what doesn’t… and when should you look for this type of support.

Session 8: ‘Radio Daze’ 2:15pm – 3:15pm

Radio is still a key avenue for musicians to market their music to new audiences.  So how do you get your track to radio?  How can you get radio programmers listening, and what are they listening for?

Session 9: ‘Demo Listening‘ 3:30pm – 4:30pm

Guerilla Marketing (Masterclass) 11.30am – 12.30pm

The emergence of social media has directly affected the marketing of music bringing the power back to the artist to create interest and directly communicate with their audience.  This session gives you tangible steps to marketing yourself using this technology as well an insight into successful marketing ideas and techniques.

Production (Masterclass) 11:30am – 12:30pm – NB VENUE: Subsonic studios, Stuart Park. (Transport to be arranged from conference).

Running a home studio and want to know how to pull the best sound.  Looking to get in to production on a large scale or just have some tracks that you’d like some feedback on then this session is for you.  Steven Schram the ARIA award winning producer of the Waifs and many others including our own Leah Flanagan brings his skills to Darwin

Festivals (Masterclass) 2:00pm – 3:00pm (Venue: Vibe Conference Centre).

For many acts festivals are a rite of passage and the holy grail of touring.  Annette Tripodi (Womadelaide) and Peter Noble (Byron Bay Blues Festival) along with Mark Lackey from Atlas Touring will talk about how to get that elusive festival slot and how to make the most of the opportunity.
