Northern Territory ‘pyromusical’ artists The Bang Collective have taken out two major awards at the Montreal International Fireworks Competition!
The collective won a Bronze Jupiter Medal and the Best Soundtrack Award for their entry The Colours of Kakadu, inspired by the changing seasons of the Northern Territory’s heritage listed national park.
The medal and award recognise the collective efforts of Darwin music group eMDee – featuring didge musician Mark Hoffman – and the Howard & Sons pyrotechnics specialists.
Competing on July 16 in Canada against nine other countries, The Bang Collective performed a spectacular pyrotechnic display called The Colours Of Kakadu, featuring – and choreographed to – a 30 minute set of eMDee’s live original music in the soundtrack.
The show received a standing ovation.
The Best Soundtrack Award exposed the musical talents of eMDee musicians,: renowned didgeridoo player Mark Hoffman, and talented percussionist Lukas Bendel, to an enthusiastic international audience. They performed their energetic live soundtrack on a floating stage in the middle of ” the La Ronde lake”.
The Bang Collective will now be “taking the show to international arts and music festivals around the world.”
Word is the crew are “very happy” with the results. “To put together a brand new live pyromusical in the toughest fireworks competition in the world is a massive task and you need a very talented and hard working team,” said Stuart Bensley, Howard & Sons creative designer.
