While Gurrumul Yunupingu is a a focus – he picked up 5 of the 7 awards of the night – many artists involved in the NIMAs concert are also featured, including Shellie Morris and the Yanyuwa Women Singers, Ali Mills, former Yothu Yindu frontman and Yolngu elder Mandawuy Yunupingu, 2011 Hall of Fame inductees Warumpi Band, No Fixed Address and Coloured Stone, with Dan Sultan‘s “climactic set of 21st century urban blues” also coming in for an appreciative mention.

The article outlines the significance of the NIMAs within the national music landscape, and discusses the importance of acknowledging the history and diversity of contemporary Indigenous music in Australia, on a national level.
