VAMPtv needs you!

VAMPtv is looking for content for online programs which are broadcast through the NT Education Department.

An initiative of NT Music School it’s a great way of getting ‘products’ from Youth or Music Programs (or anything else!) out to remote NT communities.

VAMPtv is a magazine style program streamed through www.vamptv.com.au that communicates a strong and vibrant Indigenous arts scene – with positive role models and examples of young people involved in great projects.

The first episode featured Dungada Street Sounds (Ramingining), Iwantja Band (Indulkana) and a fantastic clip from Nyirripi called ‘Bikey Boys’.

Over the course of the series (7 episodes) many clips have been shown from third party producers like Miwatj Health (Nhulunbuy), Jimmy Little Foundation and InCite Youth Arts (Alice Springs) as well those produced in-house featuring school bands from Gapuwiyak, Kalkaringi, Galiwinku and Warruwi to name a few.

Material shown includes music videos, dance sequences, visual art montages, short skits, interviews and animations.  Stories could be about the local school art or music program, an established band on tour, etc.

The program is intended to inspire school children, particularly in remote communities from middle school up, to become engaged in the arts, in their school, and switched onto the many exciting things being produced by young and old throughout the Northern Territory.

It is also intended to inspire the schools themselves to pursue arts within their curriculum – to illustrate the benefits to their students and the developmental opportunities.

A new episode of VAMPtv comes out every 2 weeks of the school terms, and is only available for viewing through the DET schools server.   Though a closed membership – ie you need to apply or be invited to join – this is a large network of viewers.

The front page of the website is available publicly and allows viewing of a VAMPtv program trailer and an information sheet.

Associated with this is a social network site where students can have their own profile page, upload and share their creative work and continue the dialogue that the VAMPtv program sets up.

This network is available only by invitation and is monitored by administrators in each of the participating schools.

The VAMPtv production team is also available for visits to schools and can offer advice and practical assistance (editing etc) for schools wishing to participate but not sure how to go about it.
