Alice Springs-based CAAMA Music have released a brand new compilation CD, “Desert Pop, Lock & Drop”. Proving just how versatile music from the Northern Territory can be, local singers Cassandra Williams and Mei Lai Swan came up with a sound that CAAMA says it’s been “heading for”.

A series of Anti-smoking videos created as part of the Galiwin’ku Healthy Lifestyle Festival 2009 , facilitated by Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation and Skinnyfish Music. Created for and completely by the Elcho Island community in remote north-east Arnhemland, this unique anti-smoking campaign spread like wild fire across Arnhemland as mini video clips being passed around through peoples mobile phones.

Harold Injimardi Daly-Waters is from the community of Elliot, 280kms north of Tennant Creek. He represents the Jingili, Mudburra and Kundaji Tribes. This album was produced with the assistance of funding frmo the Christensen Fund in the United States.

Singer/Songwriter Warren H Williams has become one of the most loved indigenous identities on the Australian music scene. There was much rejoicing in the Alice Springs office of Ngapartji Ngapartji last week. The big hART/Pitjantjatjara Community project announced the release of a nineteen-track compilation CD entitled ‘Wanti Watjilpa’ or “Don’t Be Lonely”. Project officer and Music NT Forum member Beth Sometimes says that “forty-five musicians from Ernabella, Amata and Fregon contributed to the diverse range of sounds and songs on Wanti Watjilpa – kungka, nyitayira, wati, minyma tjuta! Girls, boys, men and women!”

Jessica Mauboy has received the most nominations at this year’s ARIA Awards, topping the table at seven. It’s been a big year for the 20 year-old, who also won ‘Act Of The Year’ and Album Of The Year’ at the 2009 NT Indigenous Music Awards.
