It’s on again…
27 August – 27 September, 2010
“Celebrating original music in the Territory.”
The secret is out; original music in the Northern Territory is thriving. Jessica Mauboy is one of the most popular artists in Australia; Gurrumul’s album sits atop the World Music charts, Tjupi Band opened the massive One Night Stand concert ahead of John Butler, with NT bands being programmed at music festivals all over the country. They’re also being touted nationally on triple j, Radio National, ABC Local Radio, in Australian Musician magazine, Sydney Morning Herald, Rolling Stone and beyond… It seems every week a new band or artist emerges in any music genre you care to poke a stick at: world, rock, punk, blues, roots, reggae, electronica, dance, folk, country, pop and everything in between. And every time you turn around, someone else releases a new CD.
Original music in the Territory is going off! So much so that in 2009, Music NT decided to devote an entire month to celebrating original NT music annually.
The aim of NT Music Month is to increase the profile of original music throughout the Northern Territory and Australia. And to do that Music NT has partnered with major NT festivals, arts bodies and venues to present a series of workshops, showcase gigs, special events and the iNTune Music Conference - all to shine a light on the unique talent that dwells here.
