The Garrangali Band CD launch at Yiplara on March 24, 2010 was the culmination of lots of hard work over two years, including recording, training, mixing and mastering, producing and post production, and lots of other things in between.

This album ‘Garrangali’ (Crocodile Nest) is a unique and innovative enterprise development opportunity from the youth and community of Yilpara, and is an exciting celebration of dedication, initiative and hard work. Music crosses all borders and boundaries, seeking to infuse, unite and engage.

The lyrics and Manikays of this album embraces the deep connection and relationship between the ancestral land and sea and the visions of the old people, strengthened by strong community spirit and cultural integrity. The album package features a DVD that includes music videos of two featured songs, ‘Mungurru’ and ‘Muthi Muthi’.

New CD from Ngapartji Ngapartji!!

There was much rejoicing in the Alice Springs office of Ngapartji Ngapartji last week. The big hART/Pitjantjatjara Community project announced the release of a nineteen-track compilation CD entitled ‘Wanti Watjilpa’ or “Don’t Be Lonely”.

Project officer and Music NT Forum member Beth Sometimes says that “forty-five musicians from Ernabella, Amata and Fregon contributed to the diverse range of sounds and songs on Wanti Watjilpa – kungka, nyitayira, wati, minyma tjuta! Girls, boys, men and women!” She says that “the compilation explores the experimental side of the music scene in Ernabella, which has a long history in harmony singing, ceremony and a recent dynamic engagement with contemporary musical genres.” The CD will be available from December 16. Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors EP Pilgrimage is ‘feature CD’ on Radio National this week. See what ’Sound Quality’ presenter Tim Ritchie, said about it here.

Tim was a speaker at the recent iNTune Music Conference. He saw The Bone Collectors play at their Original Music Showcase gig at Darwin Festival, and decided to feature their music on RN. Tim has also been playing music by NT artists on his show as part of NT Music Month.

Danger mouse became famous when he produced the mash up of the Beatles “White Album” and Jay Z’s “Black Album” entitled “The Grey Album”. Currently Danger mouse’s Label EMI is refusing to release his new work so he has taken it into his own hands. Read more here.

Hello… Okay? (Come here Tom) is the name of the debut EP by Darwin all-female hip-hop outfit, 2 Cats 1 Hat.

They launched it on Friday, May 8 2009 at Studio 93, Darwin Entertainment Centre, supported by Kris Keogh (Blastcorp).

The Cats returned to DEC’s Studio after playing to a crowded house there on February 6th, 2009, as part of the ‘Jam In The Wet’ series of live + local artists, where they wowed the audience with an energetic cabaret-style show.
