Proposals for workshops, panels, artist and project presentations for the annual festival are due by Wednesday March 31st. The event features indepedent and innovative music from national and international artists, and will be held as part of the This Is Not Art (TINA) Festival in Newcastle, NSW from the 30th September – 4th October, 2010.

Since 2000, Sound Summit has provided independent musicians, producers, labels, promoters, industry, media and fans a chance to perform, discuss, learn, teach, interact and argue in front of an audience of like minded peers in a nurturing and creatively stimulating environment that allows for democratic exchange of ideas, processes and working methods.

Sound Summit is calling for proposals for this year’s festival from passionate music producers, workers and consumers keen to be involved in Sound Summit’s 2010 program. If you’ve got great ideas about the ongoing development of music in Australia and globally, Sound Summit is keen to hear your thoughts. They are interested in receiving proposals that explore inventive perspectives on contemporary music – be they technological, theoretical, political, media, industry, fan or practice based.

After an extensive career as Network Co-ordinator and Program Director at Australia’s national contemporary radio network Triple J, Rob Scott moved into the music business creating ABC Music contemporary label Fly. Here he signed artists of the calibre of Vassy, Andy Clockwise, The Morning After Girls, Endorphin and Deepface.  In January 2009 Rob formed Sandcastle Music , a new publishing and recording entity with partners in film & tv music supervision, film production, advertising and with access to recording studios. Sandcastle publishes songwriters and film composers and has a sub-publishing arrangement with respected UK company Warp. Sandcastle has recently released ARIA nominated artist Jen Cloher’s second album “Hidden Hands” and introduced Folk Uke to Australian audiences. On the publishing and synchronisation front Sandcastle has signed roots reggae artist Declan Kelly, string and performance artists CODA, alt. country act King Curly and recently the much talked about Western Australian blues singer/songwriter Abbe May. Sandcastle has also recently completed a deal with Elefant Traks for publishing and master sync for the label.

The Fuse Festival in Adelaide starts this week and is a great chance to check in the with the rest of the Australian Music Industry.  Last years event shook with the Long Way To The Top Entourage where NT music was firmly placed at the forefront of peoples minds.  If you are heading to Fuse as a band, manager or musician take the opportunity to learn, network, make contacts and have fun.

Artist submissions are now open to non-WA acts to play at next year’s West Australian Music Industry Festival (WAMi) Showcase. The WAMi Festival will run from 19-23 May, 2010. Submissions close on Friday 15 January. WAMi Festival Director Sarah Norton says that in addition to local WA acts being programmed at next year’s festival, “A couple of acts from outside WA will also be given spaces”.
