Sunday March 27 2011 marked the national television premiere of the brand new Seven Star Band music video, ‘Baru’.

It was broadcast on ABC-TV music video program ‘rage’.

Produced in association with ABC Open, the music video production was part of the prize Seven Star Band won at the 2010 Indigenous Music Awards, for ‘Best School Band’.

The annual IMAs are proudly presented by Music NT.

ABC Open producer Will Tinapple travelled to Yirrkala in North Eastern Arnhem Land, Seven star Band’s hometown.

There he worked with the band and their community to produce the clip. He says that ‘Baru’ “means ‘crocodile’ in Yolngu Mata” the language spoken in Yirrkala.

The Garrangali Band CD launch at Yiplara on March 24, 2010 was the culmination of lots of hard work over two years, including recording, training, mixing and mastering, producing and post production, and lots of other things in between.

This album ‘Garrangali’ (Crocodile Nest) is a unique and innovative enterprise development opportunity from the youth and community of Yilpara, and is an exciting celebration of dedication, initiative and hard work.  Music crosses all borders and boundaries, seeking to infuse, unite and engage.

The lyrics and Manikays of this album embraces the deep connection and relationship between the ancestral land and sea and the visions of the old people, strengthened by strong community spirit and cultural integrity.  The album package features a DVD that includes music videos of two featured songs, ‘Mungurru’ and ‘Muthi Muthi’.
